HiveTag is a simple web app for hobby and small-scale beekeepers. Record inspections, keep track of what each hive needs and see where your beekeeping money is going over the season.
It runs in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop – nothing to install, just log in and go, whether you keep bees in Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan or elsewhere in the UK.
HiveTag now supports optional NFC hive tags, so you can tap your phone on a tag and jump straight to that hive’s record – ideal for busy apiary days and wet gloves. NFC hive tags are available to purchase directly through BeezKnees.
HiveTag focuses on a few things done well – not endless menus and settings. It’s designed to sit alongside your hive tool and smoker, not replace them.
Log inspections with notes on brood, stores, queen status, temperament and actions taken. Quickly see when you last visited each hive so you don’t miss important follow-ups or seasonal jobs.
Link tasks and to-dos to apiaries and hives. From feeding and treatments to equipment changes, HiveTag keeps a clear list of what needs doing and where, so you can plan your next visit more easily.
Track inventory items, expenses and sales so you can see what your beekeeping is really costing – or earning. Helpful whether you sell a few jars to friends or run a small sideline.
The app is designed to be simple enough that you’ll actually use it after a long afternoon in the bees.
HiveTag also supports optional NFC hive tags, so you can tap a tag on the hive and jump straight to its record, keeping your phone use quick and focused at the apiary.
HiveTag is designed so you can start small and grow into more features when you need them – no pressure to upgrade.

No. HiveTag runs in a web browser on most modern phones, tablets and laptops. NFC hive tags are optional, but fully supported – you can use them to jump straight to a hive’s record with a quick tap, or just use the app on its own.
Yes. Although it was built by a beekeeper in South Wales and tested around Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, HiveTag is designed for hobbyist beekeepers anywhere in the UK.
No. Your records are stored securely on our managed database. You can log in from any device with a browser and internet connection, so you can check hive notes at home or in the apiary.
Of course. You can export or copy your key records at any time and cancel a paid plan if you decide it’s not right for the way you keep bees.
HiveTag comes from the same place as the main BeezKnees website – a hobby beekeeper in South Wales who wanted clearer records and less guesswork from one season to the next, especially around Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Whether you’re running a single hive at the end of the garden or starting a small out-apiary, HiveTag is there to support your decision making, not replace it. The real work is still done by you – and the bees.
